JOHN MORGAN BUCHANAN, 74 of Lemoyne, NE, former long-time Madrid resident, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.
John was born to Chester Raymond & Mary Leonora "None" (Stevens) Buchanan on July 25, 1941 north of Grant, NE. He grew up southeast of Madrid, NE, and graduated from Madrid High School in 1961. John married Carol Kay Hoover of Madrid on October 8, 1961. Two daughters were born to this union, Tonya Kay & Tammy Faye.
John worked for farmers, irrigators, and the Nebraska Public Power District in the mechanics area. He loved spending time at the lake with family and friends. John never knew a stranger and had made friends throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and None; brothers, Bill and Don; step-brother, Charles and step-sister, Faye.
John is survived by his wife, Carol of Lemoyne; daughters, Tonya and Tammy, both of Lemoyne; sister, Jane and Larry Harger of Madrid; nephews, Chester and Mary Harger of Madrid, Morgan and Julie Harger and family of Ogallala, Chad Evans of Hastings, and Bill and Carla Harger and family of Earlham, IA; nieces, Sarah and Bill Harder of Crab Orchard, Kristi Evans of Oberlin, KS, Donna Sandberg of Madrid; great-nephews, Luke and Heather Burd and family of Climax, MN, Levi and Erin Burd and family of Fargo, ND, Shad and Lacy Harger and family of Ogallala, Shane and Amanda Harger and family of Ogallala, Trent and Jen Harger and family of Madrid, Joseph and Jeromy Olson of Fargo, ND, and Eric Sandberg of Madrid; great-nieces, Tiffine Harger of Madrid and Lydia and Jon Paulson and family of Sterling; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in John's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 16th 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala with John Long officiating. Private scattering of cremains will be at a later date.
