Max M. Miller

April 11, 1923 — February 21, 2017

MAX M. MILLER, 93 of Lewellen, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Max was born April 11, 1923 at Blue River, WI to Alva and Robbie (Haskins) Miller. He attended school in Boscobel, WI. On December 1, 1945, Max married Phyliss Dalton at Blue River, WI. The couple made their home in the Blue River area where they farmed until Max entered the meat processing and supply industry. For many years he sold meat processing equipment across the midwest. At the age of 58, Max stepped away from equipment sales to work for F.W. Witt, selling their seasoning over a territory that covered Kansas and Nebraska. After a few years, Max left F.W. Witt to pursue the production and sale of his own design of a smokehouse, which he had patented. In 1979, Max and Phyliss built their home near Lewellen. Following the death of his wife in 2007, Max moved into Lewellen.

Max spent nearly a lifetime contributing to the meat and poultry industry, which was something he was proud of. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt, trap and fish.

Max was preceded in death by his wife, Phyliss, in 2007; parents; and 2 brothers, Harley and Fay.

Survivors include his sons, Michael (Diane) Miller of Peyton, CO, and Harley Miller of Kearney; 4 grandchildren, Dawn Davidson-Cooper, Timaree (Tracy) Hansen, Rachael Miller, and Pam Maldonado; 2 great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Taylor; brother, Burl (Dorothy) Miller of Wisconsin; 3 sisters, Vida (Arnold) Santucci of Healdsburg, CA, Devona Sharp of Zephyrhills, FL, and Ann Soltoff of McLean, VA; and many other relatives and friends.
