Ruby Edwards

Ruby Edwards, age 92 of Ogallala, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17th at the Ogallala United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Rager officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Ruby was born November 30, 1919 at Albion, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Ella (Fritzen) Kenfield. The Kenfield family moved to a farm south of Brule where Ruby attended schools, graduating from the Brule High School in 1939. Ruby married Leslie Edwards, who as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Army. The couple resided in Texas and San Francisco, California while Leslie was serving in the Army. Ruby returned to Ogallala to live while Leslie served in England, Belgium, Germany and France. Following Leslie’s discharge from the service the couple resided in Ogallala.

Ruby had been employed at TRW, Holiday Inn, Kanub’s Motel and for many years at Indian Hills Manor. She had been a longtime volunteer for RSVP and for the Bloodmobile. Ruby had a love for the out of doors and enjoyed the flowers and birds in her yard. In her younger years she accompanied her husband and son when they fished. She enjoyed antiques, going to shows, and traveling. Her favorite destinations included Denver, Des Moines, North Platte and Cheyenne. She also enjoyed the time spent with relatives and friends and especially loved the elderly and children.

Survivors include her son, Steve Edwards of Ogallala; sisters, Donna Burnside of Washington and Margaret LeZotte of Ogallala; brothers, Robert and wife Helen Kenfield of Brule and Harvey and Howard Kenfield of Ogallala; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie; a sister, Dorothy; sister in laws, Glenna and Glenda Kenfield; as well as her husband’s brothers and sisters and their spouses.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Gubser Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com. Memorials are encouraged to the United Methodist Church or the Kenfield Petrified Wood Gallery in Ruby’s memory. Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
