Allyn Sutton

January 8, 1956 — April 2, 2022

T. Allyn Sutton, 66, of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant.

Allyn was born January 8, 1956, at Ogallala, Nebraska, to Theodore "Ted" and Ferne (Dollison) Sutton. He graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1974. Allyn was a proficient athlete and was awarded the Dutch Cup in his senior year.

On August 21, 1976, Allyn married the love of his life and girlfriend since the eighth grade, Michele Elmshaeuser, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala.

Allyn attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln before entering the Logan College of Chiropractic, earning his Doctorate in Chiropractic in 1979.

Allyn started his career in Chiropractic as an Associate with Dr. Wills in Gering, Nebraska. The family relocated to Ogallala shortly thereafter, where Allyn opened his own practice, the Sutton Chiropractic Clinic, in 1981. Allyn's practice steadily grew, and in 1996, the office moved to its current location on First Street. In 2008, Allyn was proud to have welcomed his daughter Tara to the practice.

Allyn had a great passion for health and athletics throughout his life. He loved to play golf and was active in leagues and on the tournament circuit. You could probably find him out on the course on any nice day, many times with his entourage of family playing along beside him. He was also very active on the racketball court in his younger days. Basketball had a special place in his heart, and he loved helping young people learn the game. Allyn was a dedicated coach to teams at St. Paul's Lutheran School, Ogallala High School, and spent a special season as his daughter Teeyl's assistant coach at Arthur County High School. Despite a challenging battle with cancer, Allyn committed himself to finishing out the 2021-22 season at Ogallala Middle School, which he proudly did.

Allyn was affable and had a way of connecting with people that left no one feeling like a stranger. He was a deep thinker and perpetually curious, which, combined with his determination, made him a formidable force when he set his mind to a purpose. He excelled at his work and was among the leaders in his profession, actively committing himself to the advancement of Chiropractic through the state association, where he'd served as a district representative on the board.

Allyn had a habit of bestowing nicknames to people, particularly those he favored. If he teased you, he cared for you. For his girls, these unique 'handles' were like Allyn's playful love language. His love for his family ran deep, and he found ways to involve himself in their lives by sharing their passions, sponsoring their youth groups, coaching their sports teams, traveling together, or sharing a good crossword puzzle.

Allyn had a special gift of expressing himself through his hands. His handshakes were the perfect complement to the energetic and unpretentious guy looking back at you. His hands revealed the athletic achievements he'd savored, from his knuckles to his calluses. His hands served to communicate healing to countless people. With his hands now at rest, may he be lovingly embraced and upheld by the hands of his Lord.

Allyn was preceded in death by his father; sister, Beverly Sutton; nephew, Isaac Stevens; father-in-law, Roy (Clarice) Elmshaeuser; a brother-in-law, Jerry Stevens; and a sister-in-law, Vicki Elmshaeuser.

Survivors include his mother, his wife, Michele of Ogallala; four daughters, Tara Sutton, Quinn Sutton, Alyse (Jason) McEvoy, and Teeyl Sutton, all of Ogallala; three grandchildren, Neve, Owen, and Bryn; siblings, Cindy Stevens of Pine Ridge, SD, Terry (Tammy) Sutton of Commerce City, CO; sister-in-law, Wendy (Rex) Christensen of Keystone; along with many other relatives and friends.
