Carl Bloomberg

April 2, 1935 — July 21, 2022

Carl Bloomberg, 87, of Ogallala, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on July 21, 2022, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Carl was born April 2, 1935, at Ogallala, Nebraska, to Fritz and Bernice (Davison) Bloomberg. He attended Ogallala Public Schools.

In January of 1954, Carl married Mae Dean Kastler in Brule, Nebraska. Five children were born to their union. Carl went to work for Gene Nielsen as a young man, and he always credited Gene for playing a pivotal role in the man he would become.

Carl eventually went to work for NPPD, which inspired him to further his education by taking vocational classes. Carl's hard work and dedication to his craft ultimately led him to obtain his master electrician's license and credential as a general contractor. He built his first residential home in 1962 and his first commercial property seven years later. Carl's career spanned several decades and countless projects under the auspices of Bloomberg Electric and Bloomberg Construction.

On September 4, 1976, Carl married Sarah McEntee Barnica in Grant, Nebraska. A daughter, Melissa, joined their large family. The two built the Roller Rock Skating Rink in the late 1970s, which was a project that was always meaningful to them.

Carl was an incredibly hard worker and hung his hat on doing things correctly and with great integrity. He developed a very loyal base of customers throughout the Sandhills, where he spent a great deal of time working on projects. Carl was a straight shooter and loved to visit. In his later years, Carl would coffee all over town, chatting with people and sharing laughs. His blue eyes were sharp and expressive, and his stiff handshake had a way of communicating his values.

Carl was deeply devoted to his grandchildren and loved to involve them in what he was doing, from riding along on the mower, driving the tractor, riding the golf cart, or playing at the lake.

Survivors include his children, Doris (Galen) Lair of Ogallala, Kathy (Jerry) Joyce of Eagle, Gary Bloomberg (Jeanie Maskill) of Lees Summit, MO, Scott Bloomberg of Ogallala, Clay Bloomberg of Ogallala, Melissa (Richard) Burmood of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rodger (Carol) Bloomberg of Ogallala, Harold "Pete" Bloomberg of Grand Island, Tom Bloomberg of Ogallala; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Pollock, Linda (Mike) Tuttle, Timmie Bishop (Bill Zeiss); brothers-in-law, Tom (Ronna) McEntee and Gordon Betts; longtime friend, Lloyd Johnson of Ogallala; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
