Cleo was born on the family farm near Brownell, Kansas, on December 29, 1929, the daughter of Vincent and Anna (Halbleib) Kreutzer. She attended school at Wallace, Kansas and later attended school in Sharon Springs, Kansas, graduating from high school in 1945. She moved with her family to Evans, Colorado in 1952. Cleo attended cosmetology school and opened a beauty salon in her home in 1963. She began her employment with Western Electric (later AT &T) in 1966 in Aurora, Colorado.

She married William Waldschmidt on February 12, 1976 at Aurora, Colorado, where they made their home until their retirement. The couple went camping and traveled much of the Continental United States and British Columbia, Canada. They continued boating and fishing at Lake McConaughy until the last couple of years.

When Cleo retired from AT &T in 1986 she and Bill built a retirement home on the North side of Lake McConaughy. Cleo loved her flower gardens and enjoyed watching all the various birds and wildlife that would visit their feeders. She loved visiting with everyone and especially enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona where she could walk her little dog, Pepper, and visit with all her friends. She would be gone for hours doing just that. While living in Colorado, she and her friends would always be the first ladies at the Thompson Reservoir for opening day of trout season. Cleo’s hobbies included fishing, camping, water skiing, bowling, crocheting, flower gardening and traveling.
