Daphne Lucille Davis

June 26, 1927 — January 23, 2021

Daphne Lucille Burton Davis, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 26, 1927, at the Sutherland Hospital to Glenn and Ruth Burton. She was raised on the S-V Ranch south of Paxton, where coming full circle she also spent her final years. She graduated from Paxton High School and then the Colorado Women’s College.

She married Rood Menter in February of 1951 and ranched in Sedgwick, Colorado. To that marriage was born two children, Kimberly and Wade. She later married Bancroft Davis of Julesburg, Colorado which brought to her step-children, Tracy, Pinky and Leslie. These marriages blessed her with children, but she was better remembered outside of them as a self-determined woman with real grit.

It was a surprise to many that in 1979 this lady, most familiar with ranch life, bought a General Motors car dealership, Robison Motors, later renamed Davis Motors. Daphne was one of a few women to successfully operate a new car dealership in Colorado. She overcame many obstacles and for the last 5 years in her car business, she was on the list of Top 100 Women-Owned Companies in Colorado.

Always purposeful, after closing the dealership she started a catering business called the Dinner Belles and with the help of dear friends catered farm auctions, wedding receptions and special dinners for over 10 years. She sold this business and finally started to enjoy full retirement.

She was the first female Rotarian of Sedgwick County, an organization and involvement she treasured. She loved to entertain and was aspirational in her written correspondence to friends and family. She was special in so many ways to so many people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Ruth Burton; her brother, Glenn Burton Jr.; beloved son, Wade B Menter; and great-grandson, William E Hardin.

She is survived by daughter Kim (Greg) of Paxton; stepchildren Tracy (Eveline) White of Pocatello, Idaho, Pinky (John) Royer of Greeley, Colorado, and Leslie (Allen) Loos of Cheyenne, Wyoming; grandchildren Justin (Brittany) Hardin of Paxton, Jared (Andrea) Hardin of Sutherland, Kolby (Nick) Kauffman of Overland Park, Kansas, Kallie (Matt) Lusk of Bend, Oregon, April (Colby) Christensen of Maxwell, and Loren (Yentle) Dyas of Brady; great-grandchildren Ethan Hardin; Ava, Lane and Luke Hardin; Charles Kauffman; Emory and Regan Christensen; Mackenzie, Maddisun, Lillian and Chase Dyas.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Sedgwick County Rotary Foundation and Paxton United Methodist Church. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where a recording of the services will be posted.
