Dayton Armstrong

February 19, 1945 — August 17, 2020

DAYTON ARMSTRONG, 75 of Ogallala, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020, at Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant.

Dayton was born February 19, 1945, at Ogallala, Nebraska to J. Raymond and Lottie M. (Branz) Armstrong. Dayton graduated from Brule High School with the class of 1963.

On August 1, 1964, Dayton married Jeanine Myers, and the couple made their home in Ogallala. Dayton worked as a lineman for the Union Pacific Railroad for a few years before going to work for TRW. He started on the line and eventually worked his way into a technician role. After TRW, Dayton worked as a District Representative for the National Federation of Independent Businesses, which lobbied for the small business sector. He would later start a snack business called D & J Enterprises, which involved the development of a sales route that he and his wife serviced for many years. Dayton and Jeanine also bought, sold, and rented real estate throughout the area for many years. Their endeavors helped a number of people in the purchase of their first home.

Dayton loved to travel. Every year, he would plan and arrange for the family to go on a vacation together, even his extended family. From Fort Robinson to Utah, there were times when the Armstrong vacations would have nearly 100 people enjoying the getaway. These vacations were often the settings for the best memories. There were often car caravans, card playing, food, and rodeos to be enjoyed by all.

Dayton was a member of the Church of God, and was always a person of faith. He was generous and family-oriented. Dayton usually had a smile on his face, and a ball cap on his head.

Dayton was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Dean; sister, Karen Senyard; 2 brothers-in-law, Virgil Leach, and Jim Crawford.

Dayton is survived by his wife, Jeanine of Ogallala; children, Brenda (Jack) Mead of Ogallala, Carol (Baxter) Badure of Belvidere, SD; six grandchildren, Aaron (Crystal) Mead, Riah (TJ) Mitchell, Larissa Mead (Ural), Ben (Amanda) Mead, Brianna Badure (Malik), Kianna Badure, six great-grandchildren; Bryleigh Mead, Cora Haacke, Ethan & Nathan Mead, Hagen Brown, Milo Mead; siblings, Avis Leach of Julesburg, CO, Phyllis (James) McBride of Sterling, CO, Susan Armstrong of Ogallala, Linda Crawford of Cold Springs, TX, Kathy (Mike) Wheatly of Ogallala; brother-in-law, Don Senyard of Ogallala; brother-in-law, Ronald (Roxie) Myers of Prather, CA; sister-in-law, Lavonne (Orin) Ryan of Ogallala; brother-in-law, Richard Wilson of Ogallala; sister-in-law, Trudy (Jake) Harder of Mountain Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
