Dean Ellington Clark

Longtime Lake McConaughy resident Dean Ellington Clark, 76, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12th at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Wait of the New Hope Church officiating. Interment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery south of Maxwell, Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. (CST) with military honors.
He was born February 14, 1935, at Hardin, Missouri, the son of Thomas and Lillie (McCorkendale) Clark. Dean grew up at Hardin. After his graduation from high school he moved to Denver, Colorado, and began working for Gates Rubber Company.
On February 21, 1958, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served during World War II. After his service, he joined the Colorado National Guard, serving as a Specialist 5 with the 169th Artillery Group.
After his service, he returned to Gates Rubber Co. In 1962, working there as a tuber operator for the next thirty years. During that time, he was a divisional steward for Local 154, United Rubber Workers.
On January 20, 1973, he married Barb Ellis at Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple lived at Dacono, Colorado, and worked for Gates Rubber Co. In 1993 the couple moved to Lake McConaughy.
He was a member of Local 154, United Rubber Workers, Veterans of Foreign Wars posts at Denver, Colorado and Ogallala, and the Ogallala Moose Lodge.
Among his hobbies were fishing, antique vehicles, playing cards and hosting his annual hog roast. He was an avid Denver Broncos football fan.
Survivors include his wife, Barb Clark of Brule; a son, Timothy Clark of Greeley Colorado; a sister, Florence Bessmer of Buckner, Missouri; two daughters, Donna Crain and Cheryl Ellis, both of Ogallala; a son, James Smith of Odessa; four grandchildren, Christopher Byrne and wife Dana of Bakersfield, California, Terry-Lee Washko of Decatur, Texas, Sarena and husband Daniel Talarico of Kearney and Jeremiah Smith of Lincoln; five great-grandchildren and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister in law, Marvin and Dorothy Clark; and a brother in law, Robert Bessmer.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Gubser Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.
