Ella Mae Delancey

Ella Mae DeLancey was born on December 7, 1929 at Ogallala Nebraska. She was the youngest of 5 children born to Elmer and Elsie Salmon Ochsner. She grew up on the Ochsner farm north of Grant where she attended rural school for a couple of years. In the 3rd grade, Ella Mae attended school in Grant. She later graduated from Perkins County High School and graduated in 1947. After high school, Ella Mae taught rural school for a year and was a receptionist for Wilfred Kreider in his implement business.
Ella Mae was marrid to William F. DeLancey Jr. on June 26, 1949 in Grant. Three daughters were born to this union. Bill and Ella Mae made their home in Grant. Bill operated DeLancey’s Recreation (which is currently known as DJ’s) and Ella Mae was employed by Consumers Public Power (N.P.P.D.) for over 23 years.
Ella Mae had developed a malignancy in 1978 and with radiation it was controlled but it caused damage to her abdominal region that she dealt with the rest of her life. Bill died in 1994 and Ella Mae continued to maintain her home in Grant until she moved to Westview Retirement in 2002. She enjoyed her time at Westview but because of declining health she moved to the assisted living units in Lewellen in 2010 to be closer to her daughter. She borke her hip later that year and was moved to the Regional West Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh in 2011 where she died on Friday night, June 12, 2015. She had reached the age of 85.
While living in Grant, Ella Mae was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, the Legion and V.F.W. Auxillary, and was a girl scout leader when her daughters were young.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ella Mae was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Ochsner and 2 sisters- Linnie McDonald and Margaret Ochsner.
She is survived by 3 daughters- Cynthia (Doug) Gregg of Oshkosh, Debra (David) Fortune of Delta Junction Alaska, and Dawn Penterman of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren- Gary, Jerrod, and Luke Gregg; Josh (Heather) Fortune, Tara (Joe) Lomba, Josh Penterman and Sarah (Tornell) McColley; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister- Catherine Borgens of Sidney; other relatives and friends.
