Eric Koperski

December 31, 1978 — March 20, 2014

On March 20, 2014, surrounded by family and friends at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, Eric passed away after a six year battle with cancer. Eric was 35 years old.

Eric was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on December 31, 1978. He was the youngest of four children of John Jr. and Janet Koperski.

After his 1998 graduation from Ogallala High School, Eric served as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1998 – 2004. He was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Sigonella, Sicily as well as with the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, CA. He participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom serving with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

While visiting friends at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 1999, Eric met his wife Amanda Speake. They kept in touch over many years and many miles and were finally married on July 30, 2005 in Ogallala, NE.

Following his discharge from the Navy, Eric earned a Bachelors Degree in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2008. He worked as a consultant in the pharmaceutical industry.

Eric had a love of hunting and was affectionately known as “Goose” to his siblings. He also enjoyed mountain biking and skiing. He passed on his love of snow to his daughter Lauren, 5.

Eric was preceded in death by: maternal grandparents Charlie and Blanche Abood; paternal grandparents, John and Rose Koperski and aunt Francis Kush. Eric is survived by: wife Amanda; daughter Lauren; his parents; brother Rev. Matthew Koperski; sister Ann Bettenhausen and husband Cordell; brother Travis Koperski and wife Robyn. Eric is also survived by aunts and uncles: Pete Koperski, Agnes Lewandowski, Henry Koperski, Joann Kuzak, Ted Koperski, Delores Fletcher, Ben Koperski, Marie Platek, Sally Mudloff, Arlene Andersen, Gaylan Abood, Karen Boop, Janell Miller, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Eric will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala, NE on March 28, 2014 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE.
