George Marquette

George Marquette, 83 of Paxton, Nebraska, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, in Aurora, Colorado.

George was born July 3, 1932 at Sutherland, NE to George and Celia (Bodell)
Marquette. He graduated from Paxton High School. Following his education, George served his country in the U.S. Army.

On September 1, 1957, he married Dorothy Jean Bauer at the Sutherland Methodist Church. The couple made their home in the Sarben and Paxton area their entire married lives, with the exception of a couple years in Colorado. George had initially sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha before working for Missouri Valley Construction. He later became a ditch rider, and owner of Marquette Feed & Seed for many years.

George's faith became a focal point in his life, particularly after the death of his wife, and he further culminated that faith through an active membership in the Paxton United Methodist Church. He Loved watching his children in all of their activities, and often coached them up before and after practices. George was an avid Paxton Tigers fan long after his children graduated. He loved playing poker on Friday nights, along with morning coffee with his friends. In addition to his numerous activities, George also dug the graves at the Paxton Cemetery for many years.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 2002; sister, Bonnie; and his twin brother, Gordon.

Survivors include his children, Doug Marquette of Paxton, Pamela Larkin of North Platte, Barry (Cari) Marquette of Westminster, CO, Cynthia Marquette of Parker, CO, Paula (Bill) Dugan of Parker, CO; 9 grandchildren, Libby, Julie & Joelle, Chad, Alexondria, Taylor, Colton, Carli and Trevor; 11 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Paxton United Methodist Church in his memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

Services will be held on July 15, 2015 at 10:30 AM at United Methodist Church with Pastor Kolawola Akinningbagbe officiating. Burial with military honors by the Hankins-Miller American Legion Post 303 will be in the Paxton Cemetery. Visitation will be on July 14, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
