Georgie J. Schindler

September 17, 1929 — April 1, 2021

GEORGIE J SCHINDLER, 91, of Ogallala, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Georgie Janette (Larsen) Schindler was born September 17, 1929, in Arthur County, NE, at the home place to Sophus P. and Mary F. (Larkins) Larsen, the youngest of the family. She was raised on a farm in Arthur county, and attended District 4 country school until May 12, 1943, when she graduated the eighth grade. She moved to Ogallala in her late teens. She worked for TRW (now American Shuzki) for many years. She also worked at Variety Center, the Elks Club, the public schools serving lunch to elementary students, and Alco before retiring.

After her retirement, Georgie enjoyed going on walks and helping out her neighbors. She attended almost all of her grandchildren's sports and various activities. She would often take road trips to Washington to visit her son's family.

When she was 82, she moved to Lincoln. She flourished and made many new friends, including the geese she walked past every morning near St. Elizabeth Hospital. She became very close with her granddaughter, who also lived in Lincoln at the time. They would do Sunday brunch and carpool back to Ogallala for family gatherings. Facing some health issues at age 89, Georgie and her family decided she would move back to WelCove in Ogallala to be closer to her daughter's family.

She enjoyed doing word finds, latch hook, puzzles, and playing cards. She was always on the move, working (never a sit-down job) or walking the parks in Lincoln to check on "her geese."

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Lucille Larsen, Albert Larsen, Ernest Larsen, and Kathryn Martens, and twin sisters.

Georgie is survived by her two children, Deborah (Thomas) Jasnoch of Ogallala, NE and Michael (Natalie) Schindler of Oak Harbor, WA; three grandchildren, Troy Jasnoch of Oshkosh, Kyler (Levi Ledbetter) Jasnoch of Lincoln, NE, and Shayla (Robert Woods) Schindler of Oak Harbor, WA; five great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Aubree, and Blayke Jasnoch and Addison and Robert Woods; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Prairie Hills Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021, with Father Bryan Ernest officiating.

A special thank you to all of the staff at Indian Hills Manor for taking special care of Georgie.
