Harold Leroy Devoe

December 28, 1940 — June 12, 2020

HAROLD L. DEVOE, 79 of Ogallala, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020, at Perkins County Health Services in Grant.

Harold was born December 28, 1940, at Ogallala, Nebraska to Harold and Darlene (Johnson) DeVoe. He graduated from Ogallala High School.

Harold worked at the post office in Ogallala before going to work for Reiselman Sign Company. On August 26, 1962, Harold married Marita Bahnsen, and their union was blessed by a son, Darin and two daughters, Dana and Debra.

In 1973, Harold started his own business, DeVoe's Sport Spot, which he operated until early 2013 when a stroke necessitated his retirement.

Harold loved to hunt and fish. He made several trips to Canada over the years, several with his grandson, Dane. Harold was integral in starting and nurturing the Trapshooting program at Ogallala, and even built several of the trap houses. After his 2013 stroke robbed him of the vision from his right eye, Harold taught himself to shoot with his left eye so he could sight in guns. He loved a good game of cards and participated in a Monday night pitch playing group for many years.

Harold tended to have strong opinions and generally didn't shy away from sharing what they were. He had a stubborn way about him at times, but his personality was genuinely endearing. Harold had developed wonderful bonds with his grandchildren and adored his great-grandson.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Marita, and siblings, Karen Helmuth, James DeVoe, and Denise Gies.

Survivors include his daughters, Dana (Trevor) Foster of Ogallala, Deb Roland of Ogallala; four grandchildren, Dane(Jamie), Demi, Mattea, and Carson; great-grandson, Knox; step-granddaughters, Shyanne and Cidney and step-great-granddaughter, Cooper; four siblings, DeeAnn (Lance) Lind of Laramie, WY, Bob DeVoe of Laramie, WY, Konee Carlson of Ogallala, and Bruce DeVoe of Ogallala; sister in law and brother in law Noel and Kareln Bullock of Grant, along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Harold's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairirehillsfuneralhome.com.
