Harold E. Edwards

September 8, 1924 — January 1, 2021

Harold Edwards, 96 of Ogallala, passed away January 1, 2021, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Harold was born September 8, 1924, in Custer County, Nebraska, to George and Blanche (Lane) Edwards. Harold lived on the farm until his father's health deteriorated, subsequently moving to Broken Bow.

Harold entered the US Army in September of 1945 and served in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in February of 1949, Harold returned to Nebraska to farm at Paxton. Harold eventually moved to Dickens, Nebraska, where he met Lois Hengen. The two were later married on October 10, 1952.

Harold worked as a mechanic for many years at Cox & McCormick Beach Ford, Ahren's Auto, and Kortey Land & Cattle and Mercantile Farming & Ranch, formerly known as Country Gentle.

Harold was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a longtime member of the Elk's Lodge #1760 and VFW.

Harold enjoyed fishing and had a talent for woodworking. He often put his abilities to use, giving new life to old furniture. Harold and Lois both had a deep faith and spent many years making Rosaries, which in turn, were sent all over the world to missionaries and churches. He was a loving father and husband. Harold and Lois were lucky to have spent over 60 years of marriage together before Lois' death on March 17, 2007.

In addition to his wife, Lois, Harold was also preceded in death by his three brothers and three sisters; as well as a grandaughter, Melanie.

Survivors include his children, George (Lynn) Edwards of Alliance, Howard (Leanne) Edwards of Queen Creek, AZ, Beverly (Gordon) Valasek of Casper, WY, Tony (Sherri) Edwards of Ogallala; seven grandchildren, Chris & William Valasek, Kay, & Brian Edwards, Cortney & Chase Edwards; six great-granddaughters, and three great-grandsons; along with many other relatives and friends.
