Harold Duane Haldeen

January 4, 1932 — August 29, 2018

Harold Duane Haldeen, 86 of North Platte, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at his home, surrounded by people that he loved.

Harold was born January 4, 1932, on the family farm southeast of Big Springs to Carl and Grace (Brune) Haldeen. He attended Cottonwood Corner Rural Elementary School and graduated from Ogallala High School.

Harold joined his father and a brother working on the family farm until being drafted into the Army. He served as a medic during and following the Korean War. After serving his country he returned to the family farm. He met his wife Dorothy Hotton when she boarded with his family while teaching at the Cottonwood Corner School. They were married for 55 years in December. With Dorothy, they had 4 children named Grace Louise, Erika Ann, Heidi Jo and Harold Paul. They built an Amway business together and he continued to be active in the family farm until his retirement in 2004. They moved into Ogallala in 2009, and then to North Platte in 2015.

Harold was active in numerous church and community committees and activities. Among his favorites were working with the youth, especially teaching Sunday School and volunteering with the preschools. He was honored in 2016 for being a lifetime member of the Big Springs United Methodist Church for 75 years. He found great joy spending time with his family and outdoors in his yard.

Harold had a generous spirit and soft-spoken demeanor, and when he spoke, he was witty.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Erika Ann; a brother, Alfred; and a niece, Barbara Corrine Froemke.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Colleen Haldeen of North Platte; daughters, Grace Louise Brott, her husband William and children Tristan, Cora and Sarah Brott of Paxton; Heidi Jo Haldeen of North Platte; and son, Harold Paul Haldeen, and his wife Danielle and son Erik Haldeen of North Platte.
