Henry Schulz

August 29, 1926 - October 15, 2017

HENRY SCHULZ, 91 of Ogallala, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Henry was born August 29, 1926, at Greeley, CO to Henry and Bessie (Janousek) Schulz, Sr. He graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1945. Following school, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in WWII. Following his discharge, Henry returned to Ogallala where he joined his father and brother in the family trucking business. On May 7, 1960, Henry married Louise J. Pieper at Bayard. The couple made their home in Sidney for a couple of years before relocating to Ogallala. Their union was blessed with four children, Tim, Liz, Barb, & Ernie. Henry and Louise owned and operated Chief Transfer & Storage, Inc. for over 50 years. Henry was a good husband and a dedicated father. Despite all the time he spent on the road, it was essential to Henry that he always make time for his family. In the summers, they spent nearly every weekend at the lake. They enjoyed family picnics often, along with boating and water skiing. Henry also loved hunting, which was something he was proud to share with his children. He was an avid Husker football fan and had season tickets for 25 years. Henry was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, and the VFW. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jonathan Proudfit; brothers, Emil and Ernie Schulz; sister, Anne Marie Schulz; and sister-in-law, Vera Schulz. Survivors include his wife, Louise Schulz of Ogallala; children, Tim (Mindy) Schulz of Ogallala, Liz (Steve) Johnson of Clay Center, Barb Schulz of Omaha, and Ernie (Kelly) Schulz of Ozark; grandchildren, Timarie (Ryan) Tuschner of Valley, Tiffany Schulz of Lincoln, Brian (Anna) Johnson of Callaway, David (Azaria) Johnson of Plumas Lake, CA, Douglas Johnson of Bellevue, Ryan Schulz of Ozark, Hallie Schulz of Ozark; five great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke's Catholic Church in his memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial with military honors by the Keith County Veterans Organizations will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala, with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
