Gene Palser

Gene Palser, 64, of Ogallala, passed away January 25, 2022, at his home in Ogallala.

Gene was born September 11, 1957, at Julesburg, Colorado, to Ivan Jay and Mary (Beal) Palser. He attended Longview country school before graduating from Big Springs high school.

In 1980 Gene moved to Greeley, Colorado where he pursued his college education. From there he moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked for Eubank Ready Mix for several years. Later he moved to Austin where he was employed by Xerox. While living there he attended the University of Texas at Austin. After leaving Xerox he joined Hewlett-Packard to work in their printing division. While working for Hewlett-Packard, Gene traveled extensively and even lived for a few years in France. He became fluent in French and developed a skill for cooking French cuisine.

In the early 2000s, Gene moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, and later Denver before moving to Big Springs in 2012. In most recent years, he made his home in Ogallala.

Gene had a thirst for knowledge and was a lifelong learner. He loved to read books and further his education by taking online college courses to keep his mind sharp. He had a special appreciation for history and computer technology.

Gene also had a gift for music and was a talented guitarist. Whether it was delicious food, captivating music, or a riveting book, Gene had a keen sense for the good, true, and the beautiful.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Palser; brothers, Richard and Greg Palser; and a nephew, A.J. Palser.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Helen Palser; siblings, Carole Palser, Nita and Mark McGreer, Marilyn and Rev. Ken Volkert, Will and Terri Palser; sister-in-law, Debbie Harland Palser; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial has been established in Gene's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

A graveside service will be held at the Big Springs Cemetery, Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Todd Lanman officiating.
