Jerry Lou Slagle

November 20, 1934 - February 1, 2022

JERRY LOU SLAGLE, 87, of Ogallala, NE, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Jerry was born to John and Myrtle Slagle in Grant, NE, on November 20, 1934, the oldest of four children, including Ted Slagle of Ogallala, Jeanne Sherman of Douglas, WY, and Max Slagle of Darwin, Australia. He married Nancy Shearer on August 28, 1955, and she preceded him in death. After college and a short stint in the US Army, he worked as an insurance claims adjuster in Indianapolis, IN and Denver, CO, before becoming a banker in Julesburg, CO. He also managed banks in Holyoke, CO, Strasburg, CO, and Thermopolis, WY. Beyond his wife and family, his greatest passions were hunting, fishing, golf, camping, and painting. His hunting and fishing pursuits took him all over the world, including Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and several countries in Africa. He was blessed with a magnetism that drew people to him because he was genuinely interested in their lives and not judgemental. He also possessed a wonderful sense of humor that made him a marvelous companion. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Nancy. Survivors include his sons, Steve Slagle of Monnett, MO, Mike Slagle of Phoenix, AZ, and Brian Slagle of Sidney; siblings, Ted Slagle of Ogallala, Jeanne Sherman of Douglas, WY, Max Slagle of Darwin, Australia; along with many other relatives and friends.
