Larry Shoopman

August 11, 1940 - November 13, 2016

KENNETH "LARRY" SHOOPMAN, 76 of Lemoyne, passed away Sunday, November 13th, 2016 at Lemoyne, Nebraska. Larry was born August 11, 1940 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Kenneth C. and Wilma (Robinson) Shoopman. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School with the class of 1958. Larry worked for the Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company, which would later become a part of Kinder Morgan. Larry was trained to be a steamfitter and would eventually become a proud and longtime member of the Steamfitters and Plumbers Union #464 in Omaha. His work sent him all over the central United States. Larry was sent to work in Hastings in the late 1970's, and it was there that he met Jean Meyer. The two would later be married on May 30, 1981 and would become an inseparable pair from that point on. The couple lived in countless places but maintained their home at Lake MacConaughy since 1981, where they made many wonderful friends. Larry retired in 1999 and remained a retiree member of Local Union #464, of which he was a member for 47 years. Larry loved to fish, and did so every chance he got. Larry and Jean's catch would often end up on the smoker, prepared in a way that most found to be irresistible. Larry was also a notorious practical jokester, earning him quite the reputation over the years. He also enjoyed playing Keno and spending time with his friends over his favorite brew from time to time. Larry was a member of the Ogallala Moose Lodge 1624 and the Big Mac Sports Club. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Troy; his parents; brother, Don; and sister, Betty Christensen. Survivors include his wife, Jean Shoopman of Lemoyne; daughter, Tonya (David) Rivard of Newton, KS; grandchildren, Veronica Jankowski of Portland, OR, Marcella Jankowski and Vanessa Schrock, all of Newton, KS; 3 great grandchildren, Chyler Beatty, Olivia Jankowski & Bailee Kyle; along with many other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Keystone-Lemoyne Fire & Rescue or the Big Mac Sports Club in Larry's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live for those unable to attend. Memorial services will be on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Martin Bay Community Church at Keystone with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating. Private scattering of cremains will take place at a later date. Guests may sign the register book on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 1pm until 6pm at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
