Lois Dunwoody

August 29, 1944 - September 30, 2020

LOIS DUNWOODY, 76 of Keystone, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at her home in Keystone. Lois was born August 29, 1944, at Ogallala, Nebraska, to Philip and Lenore Crouse. The family moved to a farm north of Flats, Nebraska, in McPherson County when she was a baby, later moving to Arthur in the summer of 1946. Lois accepted Jesus as her Savior and was subsequently Baptized in 1953. Lois graduated from Arthur High School with the class of 1962. She continued her education at Kearney State College and the University of North Dakota, where she ultimately earned her Master's degree in education. Lois began her teaching career in Grand Island. She taught second grade for two years before taking a position at Belcourt, ND. Lois went on to teach on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation before becoming an Education Specialist. Her calling was to be in the classroom, and she eventually returned to teach grade school in North Platte, Keystone, Paxton, and Lemoyne; before she ended her career to care for her aging parents. On July 23, 1976, Lois married Elton Duane Dunwoody at her parent's home on the Henry Peterson ranch at Arthur. Lois and Duane undertook many endeavors together over their forty-four years of marriage and were blessed in innumerable ways. Chief among their blessings would be the opportunity to share the Gospel with people from all walks of life, in all manner of ways. Lois was an accomplished writer and had several published works about the faith and small churches around the area. Most recently, she had written a book that was set to go to publication on the day she passed away. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dr. Ben Crouse; and sister, Florence Crouse. Survivors include her husband, Duane Dunwoody of Keystone; stepdaughter, Kim (Loren) Soper of Keystone; stepson, Dru Dunwoody of Minneapolis, MN; granddaughter, Amanda (Tom) Wuehler of North Platte; and great-grandchildren, William and Rachel Wuehler. Survivors also include her brother, Dan (Linda) Crouse of Hyannis; sister-in-law, Nancy Crouse; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorials are suggested to Mission Heart. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where a recording of the service will be posted. Services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at New Hope Church in Ogallala with Pastor Eric Wait officiating. A private family interment of Cremains will be in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Memorial book signing will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
