Louise J. Perlinger

April 13, 1933 — January 30, 2017

LOUISE J. PERLINGER, 83 of Las Vegas, NV, previous longtime resident of Paxton, died peacefully and surrounded by family in the home she shared with her daughter in Las Vegas on Monday, January 30, 2017.

Born Louise Chapman on April 13, 1933 in Litchfield, NE to Stanley and Inez (Challburg) Chapman, she spent her first several years there before the family moved to Oregon, then onto Bishop, CA to find work in the difficult times. In 1946 the family moved back to Nebraska, settling in Paxton.

In 1955, Louise married Bernard Perlinger and over the next decade, built their family of five children. They lived in Madrid, NE until 1966, then moved to Paxton where they raised their children and were active, admired members of the community. Louise spent a few years in the late sixties working for TRW in Ogallala, then began working in the restaurant business in Paxton. In 1978, she opened Swede's Cafe on the corner of U.S. Highway 30 and Main Street. She later moved to a larger location down the street and built a business that was very beloved and well known throughout the region for the homemade, quality food and service. Louise sold her business in 1990, shortly after her husband Bernard retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. In her retired years, she worked and cared for the Dan and Deb Gilg family and enjoyed being an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Louise stayed in Paxton for seven years following the death of her husband in 2002. In 2009, she moved to be with her daughter, Sandy, in Las Vegas where she found the climate and activity of her daughter's household very satisfying.

Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernard; her parents; two sisters, Ramona Perlinger and Joyce Harms; and a brother, Leroy (Bud) Chapman.

Louise is survived by her five children and their spouses, Bernie (Marcia) of North Platte, Stan (Joni) of Scottsbluff, Dave (Pattie) of Paxton, Sandy Ferman of Las Vegas and Shirley (Steve) Crites of Centennial, CO; fifteen grandchildren plus seven grandchildren in-law; fourteen great grandchildren with one on the way; her beloved adopted grandkids and family in Las Vegas; many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
