Paul Joseph "Joe" Struckman

Paul Joseph “Joe” Struckman, age 63, a Brule native, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at his home in Spring Hill, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20th at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19th at the Gubser Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Rosary at the funeral home on Sunday.

Paul is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Anna (Luke) Fritz of Kansas City, MO and Elizabeth Kelly of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Neva, Stella, Hunter and Harper; mother, Phyllis Struckman of Lincoln, NE; brothers, Pat (Jean) Struckman and Tom (Sharon) Struckman of Brule, NE and Dana (Ann) Struckman of Portsmouth, RI; sister Mary (Alan) Wiest of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul L. Struckman.

Paul was born in Ogallala, Nebraska on July 16, 1949. He graduated from Mount Michael in Elkhorn, Nebraska and earned a B.S. Degree in German from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He worked in Civilian Personnel at Offutt Air Force Base until he retired in 2001. In his final years, he made it his goal to make someone smile every day.

Paul loved horses and cycling. He enjoyed playing cribbage, writing, and socializing with friends and family. He was an active member of the Wednesday noon Optimist Club in Bellevue, Nebraska. He was the face of the United Way campaign for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Paul was also named the Civil Service Person of the Year at Offutt Air Force Base.
