Richard Allen

May 12, 1968 — September 2, 2021

Richard S. Allen, 53, of Ogallala, passed away September 2, 2021, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Richard was born on May 12, 1968, in Wooster, Ohio, to Alison McDougal-Wall. He graduated from Wooster High School.

In 1986, Richard entered the United States Army, serving until 1991. In 1990 he married Patti Karg, and their union would be blessed with two daughters, Ashley and Shelby.

Following his honorable discharge, Richard moved to Ogallala, where he did trade jobs for several years. He would eventually return to school, where he studied computer technology. Richard subsequently worked for Edward Jones before working in Brule, and later, for the City of Wray, Colorado.

Richard enjoyed watching football and was an avid fan of Ohio athletics, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed watching movies and TV and playing games. Richard always had a soft spot for cats.

Throughout much of his life, Richard's relationships had suffered and sometimes deteriorated, often as a result of his personal woundedness. In recent years, when confronted with the reality of his failing health, he was graced with the clarity and urgency to re-prioritize his relationships with God and family. For his loved ones, this was a gift and consolation.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Survivors include his two daughters, Ashley (Jesse) Vak of North Platte and Shelby (Preston) McDowell of Kearney; three grandchildren, Ryder Vak, Lydia, and Elsie McDowell; siblings, Vikki Gehring (fiance, Andrew Hout) and their family, as well as David Allen, all of Ohio.

A memorial has been established in Richard's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live.
