Robert G. “Bob” Edgar, age 89 of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16th at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest as celebrant. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery with Elks Rites and Military Honors. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gubser Funeral Chapel.
Bob was born September 19, 1923 at Maywood, Nebraska. He grew up and attended schools in Maywood and graduated from the Maywood High School. He entered the United States Army on February 10, 1943 and was discharged January 31, 1946 after being awarded a Purple Heart.
Bob married Irene Kosmiski on October 6, 1944 at Denver, Colorado. The couple resided in Denver while Bob attended the Emily Griffith Opportunity School to learn watch making. They moved to Ogallala before moving to California for two years in 1949, after which they returned to Ogallala where Bob was employed at Tom Hemmett Jewelry in the basement of the Duchess Hotel.
In 1962 he purchased the Storers Jewelry Store and began the operation of Edgar’s Jewelry. Bob and Irene operated the business and in the early 1980’s he was also employed by Mrs. Goodall. After Irene’s death in 1991 he returned to the day to day operation of the store until closing the business in 1999.
He was a member of the St. Luke’s Catholic Church, the Ogallala Elks Lodge and the Ogallala Country Club. Bob enjoyed golfing and woodworking and had wintered in Mesa, Arizona for many years.
Survivors include one son, Gary and wife JoAnn Edgar of Ft. Collins, CO and grandson Jeff Edgar and fiancé Cherie' Woodbury of Belmont, CA; one daughter, Marcia and husband Mike Butler of Ogallala, NE and grandson Scott Butler of Lincoln, NE; and significant other, Barb Calder of Ogallala. He was preceded in death by his mother, Grayce Alford; a sister and brother in law, Mildred and Dick Lamm and his wife, Irene Edgar.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gubser Funeral Home with family greeting friends from 5:00 – 6:00. The casket will not be open at the church on Thursday. A memorial has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com. Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
