Roy Elmshaeuser

February 23, 1923 — November 13, 2021

ROY ELMSHAEUSER, 98 of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Wel-Life Assisted Living in Ogallala.

Roy was born on the family farm southeast of Ogallala on February 23, 1923, to George and Linna (Burroughs) Elmshaeuser. He attended school at District # 22 through the 8th grade. Roy worked on the family farm, and in the fall of 1944, he entered the US Army. He served in the South Pacific during WWII and was honorably discharged in November of 1946. At that time, he returned to the family farm.

In November of 1949, Roy was married to Helen Elaine Anderson, and to this union, three daughters were born Vicki, Michele, and Wendy. They lived in Ogallala until they moved back to the family farm; they later divorced.

In March of 1976, Roy was married to Clarice Lunceford, and they lived in Ogallala. Roy continued to farm and do carpentry work. He enjoyed gardening, throwing horseshoes, bowling, dancing, and playing cards with family and friends. Roy was a lifelong member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Ogallala.

Roy always soaked up the rich sensory experiences of life, from Christmas spent with family, a day spent at the ballpark, or a milkshake enjoyed with his daughters. His expressive eyes had a way of signaling what he was thinking without the need for words. His near century-long race of faith complete, Roy now enjoys a richness of life that far surpasses imagining, in a place that was prepared for him by the Lord.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clarice; daughter, Vicki; three brothers, Leslie (Wilma), Elmer (Susie), and Ralph (Arlene); sister, Erna (Joe) Ammons; brothers-in-law, Dennis Walker and Jim Carey and three stepsons, Doug, Kelly, and Craig Lunceford.

Survivors include his daughters, Michele (Allyn) Sutton of Ogallala, Wendy (Rex) Christensen of Keystone; stepson, Brian (Michelle) Lunceford of MO; grandchildren, Tara Sutton, Quinn Sutton, Alyse (Jason) McEvoy, Teeyl Sutton, all of Ogallala, Darin (Marina) Makovicka of Hershey, Jana (Andy) Thomas of CO, Dane Christensen of Ogallala, and Olivia and Ty Lunceford of MO; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lorna Carey of CO, and many other family members and friends.
