Vicki L. Walter, 70 of Lewellen, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Vicki Lee Knoles Walter was born June 7, 1945 to Harold and Alberta (Hall) Knoles in San Diego, California. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in Benkelman, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1963.

Vicki married Donald Wisdom on March 29, 1963. Into this union two daughters were born, Dawn Raye and Denise Renee. She attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, ran a boarding house, and also worked at the Charco Broiler restaurant. When they moved back to Wray in 1969, Vicki worked in the restaurant business and later began making curtains; this developed into an interior design career and later a furniture business.

On November 5, 1983, Vicki married Merlyn Walter of Saint Francis, Kansas. With this marriage, she gained three step-children, Lee, Bob, and Diane. Merlyn joined her at the store with his real estate business. Together, they also worked on Merlyn's ranch and shared a love for fishing and time in the outdoors. After selling their business, Vicki and Merlyn moved to Lewellen Nebraska to retire near Lake McConaughy. They also enjoyed purchasing and selling antiques.

Vicki was a very hard worker. She will also be remembered for her beautiful singing voice. She sang with a musical group, The Ravens and was requested to perform on the radio and at many weddings and celebrations. She was also noted for her culinary talents and her ability to create new recipes that she loved to share with others.

Vicki was preceded in death by her father, Harold Knoles.

She is survived by her husband Merlyn, her mother Alberta Knoles of Benkelman, daughters Dawn and her husband Brent Evans of Haigler, Denise and her husband James Herman of Greeley, CO, Bob Walter of Sundance, WY, Lee Walter of Everett, WA, Diane and her husband Jason Frazier of McPherson, KS, brother Rick and his wife Rebecca Knoles of Sugar Land, TX, sister Holly and her husband Greg Ham of Holdrege, and many loving grandchildren; mother-in-law, Alma Walter of Wray, CO, sister-in-law, Linda Williams and husband Edd of Wray, CO, sister-in-law, Nancy Turner and husband Ed of Phillipsburg, KS.

A memorial has been established in Vicki's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live for those unable to attend.

Services for Vicki will be held at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala, NE on Monday, January 4, 2015 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating. Internment will follow in the Ash Creek Cemetery northeast of Lewellen. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at Prairie Hills Funeral Home.
