Wayne M. Steward

August 30, 1928 — December 22, 2013

Marion Wayne Steward, age 85 of Ogallala, passed away December 22, 2013 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Wayne was born August 30, 1928 near Alva, Oklahoma to Harry and Maudie (Hiett) Steward. He attended the Ferry school at Alva.
Following his schooling, Wayne worked in harvesting for a number of years with his family. He moved to Nebraska in 1950, where he worked as a truck driver for North Port. In 1952 Wayne entered the United States Army, and following his discharge in 1954 he moved to Ogallala where he resumed his career as a truck driver. On March 21, 1959, Wayne married Jerry Robb at the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala and the couple resided in Ogallala their entire married lives. Their union was blessed with 3 children, Kendace, Kevin and Karma. Wayne drove truck locally until 1975. He then spent the next 15 years working at Goodall’s as a welder. In 1990 Wayne retired from Goodall’s. He then spent the next 17 years driving vehicles for Ogallala Motors. Eventually, Wayne retired altogether after his health began to fail, but not before logging over 500,000 worth of miles and stories that he came to cherish.
Wayne was a hard worker his entire life. In his later years, he worked hard at being a wonderful ‘Papa’ to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always involved in their activities, particularly their sporting events. Wayne had a gift for being able to fix just about anything, which was put to good use over the years as he enjoyed assisting his children with their various home projects. Wayne was a dedicated husband, father and grandpa. He will be sorely missed by his family and loved ones.
Wayne was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala, as well as the VFW Post 3755 of Ogallala. He was also extremely proud to be a member of Elks Lodge 1760 for 50 years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Pearl Benningfield, Ruby Baxter, Freda Thomas; 3 brothers, Lou Steward, Bub Steward and Lester "Boad" Steward.
Wayne is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Jerry Steward of Ogallala; 2 daughters, Kendace (Joe) Peters, Karma (Bart) Voycheske all of Ogallala; son, Kevin (Jodi) Steward of Westminster, CO; 7 grandchildren, Chris, Cody, Lizzy, Joshua, Lauren, Tucker and Ciara; 3 great grandchildren, Emajyn, Maximus and Shadix; 2 sisters, Jean Yohn and Verna Blevins; along with many other relatives and friends.
