David D. Barnes, 83, of Ogallala, passed away on March 2, 2023, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
David was born at home on October 1. 1939, to Herbert and Irene Barnes in North Platte, NE. He graduated from North Platte High School.
David married Mary E. Birdsall on December 28, 1959, at Paxton, Nebraska. The couple moved to Ogallala in 1965, where they settled and raised their five children.
David worked at Ogallala Electronics for 40 years, retiring in 2005. David was a family man who loved spending time with his loved ones. He always put his family first and cherished the memories they made together. David enjoyed summers spent at the lake, camping, fishing, and teaching his children and their friends to waterski. He also loved hunting with his sons and grandchildren.
David was a longtime parishioner of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala.
David is survived by his wife, Mary E. Barnes; his children, Deborah (Danny) Wieser of Big Springs, Denise (Terry) Hoffman of Ogallala, Randy (Teresa) Barnes of Big Springs, Sharon (Grant) Hatch of Lewellen, Michael (Kari) Barnes of Ogallala; 14 grandchildren, Justin (Pamela) Barnes, Shaun Bayne, Brett Hoffman, Jordan Hoffman, Kayleen (Reginald) Cooper, Aaron Barnes, JoAnna Swisher, Jennifer (Anthony) Ault, Crystal Hall, James Hall Jr., Garrett Hatch, Jesse (Milisa) Barnes, Austin Barnes, Karissa Barnes, and 10 Great Grandchildren; sister-in-law, Charolette Barnes of North Platte; along with many other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert & Irene Barnes; and his brothers, John (Mary) Barnes, Frank (Barb) Barnes, and Fred Barnes.

Funeral Mass will be on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 10 am at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Fr. Bryan Ernest as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 1 pm until 4 pm at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala. Rosary and wake service will be at 7 pm on Sunday at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
