DENNIS L. KEATING, 77 of Lemoyne, NE, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Dennis was born January 13, 1938 in Denison, Iowa to Vincent and Elsie (Miller) Keating. He attended school and graduated from Denison High School in 1956 and joined the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1958. He married Karen "Kay" Maahs in 1959. He was recalled to active duty in 1961 during the Cuban Crisis and served 10 additional months at that time.
Dennis lived in Council Bluffs, IA and Omaha, NE until 1969, working for the South Omaha Bank and Standard Oil of Indiana. The family moved to Littleton, CO in 1969, where he became a master electrician. He had his own electrical contracting business for several years, and later worked for Hilltop Electric in Parker, CO until his retirement in December of 2000. Following retirement he and his wife moved to Ogallala.
While in Colorado he was active and held several offices in both the Masons and Shriners. After moving to Ogallala he joined the Moose Lodge and held the office of Treasurer for many years.
In Dennis's younger days, he loved hunting and fishing and boating. He took up golf in later years, which he found to be both relaxing and enjoyable.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis is survived by his wife Kay Keating of Lemoyne; daughter, Debra (JR) Branham of Lemoyne; 2 grandchildren, James Smith Keating of Kearney and Shawna (Denny) Law of Ogallala; 1 great grandchild, Hailey Law of Ogallala; 2 brothers, Richard Keating of Iowa and David (Diann) Keating of Parker, CO; brothers-in-law, Richard (Annette) Maahs of Jefferson, SD, Robert (Evelyn) Maahs of Altus, OK, Gary (Sue) Maahs of Murphy, TX; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Dwight) Sherburne of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Marcia (David) Sanchez or Seattle, WA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in his memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will also be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Interment of cremains will follow in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Visitation for memorial book signatures will be on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home.
