Donna Shafer

Donna Kay (Searle) Shafer, 64, of Roscoe, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.

Donna was born July 24, 1959, in Ogallala, NE, to Donn and Loretta Searle. She was one of four children. She received her GED and went on to nursing school at the age of 40, graduating in 2002.

Donna's nursing career was a very important part of her life, and she was loved by all her patients and co-workers. She worked in various healthcare areas, such as nursing homes, home health, and hospice.

Donna loved camping, fishing, and gardening. She also loved riding motorcycles and classic cars with her husband. Donna was dedicated to her family and loved family get-togethers and holidays. She was a wonderful and loving great-aunt to little John, whom she and Dave took into their home for five years.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, Donn Searle; sister, Rhonda; and brother, Charlie.

Survivors include her husband, David Shafer of Roscoe; mother, Loretta Edwards of Ogallala; brother, Randy (Lia) Searle of Ogallala; sons, Jeremy, Andrew, Allen, and John; and stepchildren, Casey, Mandy, and Ashley, along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Donna's memory to St. Paul's Lutheran school. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala, with Pastor Albert Bader officiating. Interment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
