Doris Jenkins

October 10, 1937 — November 30, 2022

Doris Jenkins, 85, of Ogallala, passed away November 30, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Doris was born on October 10, 1937, at Dunlap, Iowa, to Svend Aage and Doris Ellen (Price) Petersen. She graduated from Dunlap High School with the class of 1955. Doris graduated from Omaha Baptist Bible College, where she met the love of her life, Donald "Don" Jenkins.

On March 18, 1962, Doris and Don were married at the First Baptist Church in Walnut, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five children, John, Mark, Brian, Jill, and Julie.

Doris operated a daycare for many years out of her home. When her children were grown, she began working at the Kersenbrock Drug Store. She eventually went to work for Coast to Coast, later True Value, which was a job that she sincerely enjoyed.

Doris had an ear and an eye for the beautiful as she cultivated a lifelong love of music and writing. She played the saxophone, and for a season of her life, she even enjoyed playing in the Ogallala Community Band. When Doris wrote, she expressed herself with a poetic style that allowed for an insightful gaze at her heart.

Doris was a woman of deep faith. She committed her life to Jesus at the age of 8, and was subsequently baptized. Her life was undergirded by faith, which showed in her love for her husband, family, and the people with whom she interacted. Doris had the heart of a servant and knew where her grace and strength came from.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Donald, in 2021; brother, Ray Petersen; sister, Darlene Petersen; brothers-in-law, Henry Nash and George Nash.

Survivors include her children, John Jenkins, of Boulder, CO, Mark Jenkins, of Costa Mesa, CA, Brian (Lori) Jenkins, of Kearney, Jill (Steve) Max of Ogallala, and Julie (Greg) Stokes, of Sidney; grandchildren, Lexi, Joshua, Hannah, Devon, & Logan; Collin & Miranda; Stephanie (Jon), Amber (Don), Conner (Rachel), & Jade; Jonathon, Taylor, Natalie, Samantha, & Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Elliana, Augustus, and Theodore; siblings, Pete (Phyllis) Petersen of Sahuarita, AZ, Em Nash of Kingman, AZ; along with many other relatives and friends.
