HARRIET LUCILLE CHRISTENSEN, 96 of Ogallala, NE, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.
Harriet was born August 16, 1925 at Ogallala, NE, the daughter of Harry and Dorothy (Crisman) Barnica. She grew up on the family farm north of Ogallala. She attended school in Ogallala and graduated in May of 1943.
Harriet took Normal Training and received a Teachers Certificate. She taught in rural school District 7 a year before joining the war effort. Harriet worked at Goodall Manufacturing, then at Coleman's in Wichita, KS, making stencils for airplanes and Red Cross vehicles. At the end of WWII, she returned to Nebraska and taught school at Keystone.
Harriet met Ralph Christensen while teaching in Keystone, and they were married on June 19, 1946. They lived in Keystone throughout their marriage. They were blessed with two sons, Rex and Kennen. Ralph passed away in November of 1993, and Harriet remained in Keystone until 2000 when she moved to Ogallala.
Harriet enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, painting, and handcrafting. She loved bird watching, spending time in her flower gardens, and hunting for unique rocks and Indian artifacts in the river near Keystone. Harriet and Ralph loved to travel, and shortly after Ralph's retirement, they had traveled to all 50 states. Camping at Lake McConaughy with her family was always a summer pass time that she enjoyed.
Harriet was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Circle II, Key Club, Retired Teachers, and a 76-year member of the Keystone Library Club.
Harriet was preceded by her parents; husband, Ralph; brother, Lynn (Alice) Barnica; sisters, Jean (Merle) Hatterman and Francis (Freeman) Campbell.
She is survived by her sons, Rex (Wendy) Christensen of Keystone and Kennen (Kimberly) Christensen of North Platte; grandchildren, Dane Christensen, Jana (Andy) Thomas, Darin (Marina) Makovicka, and Kaleb (Abby) Christensen; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, and many special neighbors and friends.
A memorial has been established in Harriet's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will be streamed live.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala, with Pastor Albert Bader officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
