Ianth "Fay" Gallentine, 87, of Ogallala, passed away June 20, 2026, at Western Sky Community Care Center in Grant.
Fay was born April 10, 1939, in Dresden, Kansas, to Harold Wright and Ileen (Bainter) Wright as one of five children. On November 20, 1959, Fay married Larry Joe Gallentine Sr. in Oberlin, Kansas, and they were blessed with five children: Larry Jr., Teresa, Rob, Shelley, and Randy.
Fay and Larry moved to Ogallala over the summer of 1964. She worked many jobs over the years. Fay started at the Ogallala Hospital in 1964 and then worked at TRW-AM Shizuki for the next 27 years. On January 21, 1992, Fay and her husband purchased High Plains Recyclers and expanded the business until Larry retired in 1996. After that, they managed the Comfort Inn and Econo Lodge for a few years. Fay then went to work for Office Service in 2000, which she did until her retirement.
Fay was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a woman of great faith. She was a wonderful cook who took joy in pulling the family together around holiday meals. In early years, Fay's house was always busy with her children and their friends, with something good to eat on the table for everyone. Her children remember how she taught them to be kind and considerate always, and how she taught them everything from how to cook to tying a good knot. Fay loved spending time at Lake McConaughy with her family, watching the sunsets and walking the beach in search of treasures. She shared a deep love of rockhounding with her children and grandchildren, searching gravel pits and digging for petrified wood, crystals, and arrowheads. Fay was hardworking and kind-hearted, and she had a way of making anyone who came into her path feel at ease.
Fay was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Joe Gallentine Sr.; her son, Randy Gallentine, in infancy; her daughter, Shelley Olson; a sister, Kay Brown; a brother, Sam Wright; and a sister-in-law, Mary Wright.
Fay is survived by her children, Larry Gallentine Jr. and his wife Brenda, Teresa Laflan and her husband Terry, and Rob Gallentine and his wife Janet; her grandchildren, LJ Gallentine, Amber Enstad, Chris Laflan, Tylor Laflan, Jermey Olson, and Michele Wolfe; her extended grandchildren, Josh Miller and Ashley Schilz; and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Tom Wright and Steve (Janet) Wright; brother-in-law Frank Brown; and sisters-in-law Sue Hillebrand and Dixie Collins, along with many other relatives and friends.
