Kay Keating

Karen (Kay) Keating of Lemoyne passed away on May 12, 2023, at her Lake McConaughy home.

Kay was born May 23, 1941, at Charter Oak, Iowa, to Herman and Viola (Reitz) Maahs. She attended school & graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1959.

Kay married Dennis Keating in Sept of 1959. They lived in Council Bluffs, IA, and Omaha until 1969. She worked at Mutual of Omaha for ten years. In 1969 the family, she moved to Littleton, CO, where she began her career with Johns Manville Corp. and worked her way up to payroll manager until her retirement in Dec. 2000. Following retirement, she and her husband moved to Ogallala to be near their daughter and grandchildren. She was very active and decided to go to work part-time at American Suzuki for several years. After she retired from ASC in 2012, she spent many happy hours helping her daughter & son-in-law in their restaurant.

She enjoyed boating, water skiing, and camping in her younger years. They frequented many lakes in the surrounding states during vacations. She also enjoyed golf and especially going to casinos.

Kay is survived by her daughter Deb (JR) Branham of Ogallala; her grandchildren, Shawna (Spencer) Sexson of Arthur, James (Nana) Keating of Indiana; great-grandsons, Vinnie Keating and Wyatt Sexson; great-granddaughter, Hailey Law of Ogallala; brothers, Richard (Annette) Maahs of Jefferson, SD, Robert (Evelyn) Maahs of Altus, OK, Gary (Sue) Maahs of Murphy, TX; and sister, Marcia (Dave) Sanchez of Yakima, WA.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Ginger.

A memorial has been established in Karen's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.

Memorial services will be held on June 14, 2023, at 11 am at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home chapel in Ogallala, with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
