Larry Gallentine

September 15, 1939 — February 8, 2022

Larry Joe Gallentine Sr., 82 of Ogallala, passed away on February 8, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Larry was born September 15, 1939, on the homeplace outside Norcatur, Kansas, to William and Bernice Gallentine as one of seven children.

On November 20, 1959, Larry married Ianth Fay Wright at Oberlin, Kansas. Their union was blessed with five children Larry Jr., Teresa, Rob, Shelley, and Randy.

Larry and Fay moved to Ogallala over the summer of 1964. Larry worked for Charlie Robacker for many years. He later delivered bread for Old Home Bread before farming for Dave Keller in Big Springs.

On January 21, 1992, Larry and his wife purchased High Plains Recyclers and expanded the business until they retired.

Larry loved any type of fun, from minibikes, snowmobiles, go-carts, and four-wheelers for his children and grandchildren, to camping out at lake McConaughy with his family. Anyone who happened to walk by the campsite was asked to join in on a fun game of sand volleyball. Larry was tireless when it came to sand volleyball and water skiing.

Larry loved to buy, sell, and trade in his retirement years. People would reach out from miles around to Larry to look for something they wanted to purchase or if they needed help selling something.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bernice Gallentine; brothers, Jerry and Gary Gallentine; sisters, Peggy Roe and Judy Casida; a son Randy Gallentine in infancy and a daughter Shelley Olson.

Survivors include his wife, Fay; children, Larry Gallentine Jr. and his wife Brenda, Teresa Laflan and her husband Terry, Rob Gallentine and his wife Janet; grandchildren, LJ Gallentine, Amber Enstad, Chris Laflan, Tylor Laflan, Jermey Olson, and Michele Wolfe; extended grandchildren, Josh Miller, and Ashley Miller; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Dixie Collins and Sue Hillebrand; along with other relatives and friends.
