Mark E. Gwyn

January 29, 1971 — March 19, 2023

Mark E. Gwyn, 52, of Ogallala, NE, passed away on March 19, 2023.

Mark was born in Colorado on January 29, 1971, to Marion and Faye (Forkum) Gwyn as a surprise vacation baby, but grew up in Detroit and later St. Louis. He graduated from Zumwalt High School in Missouri and went on to attend and play football at Kemper Military College and eventually studied at the University of Minnesota Morris with a Bachelor's Degree before moving to Las Vegas with his "brother from another mother," Phil Viehmann.

Mark's career eventually took him to Aberdeen, SD and eventually Sioux Falls, SD, to pursue his love for cooking, working as a chef. Some of Mark's specialties included Italian cuisine, comfort foods, and baklava. After moving to Lincoln, NE, Mark's life was blessed with the birth of his daughter, Samantha. He spent five years working in restaurants in Lincoln before moving to Detroit to attend culinary school, where he earned his culinary certification.

In 2010, Mark moved to Ogallala to be with his daughter Samantha full-time and began working at Wel-Life Assisted Living. He started as a chef and later transitioned to a Med Aide, working diligently to obtain all necessary certifications and going above and beyond in the field. His passion for helping people was evident to everyone who knew him.

Mark will be remembered as a gentle giant with a gift for humor and a natural talent for athletics, and as Mark would joke his good looks! His imposing size was matched only by his immense love and kind heart that he shared with everyone he met.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Daniel David Gwyn; and his maternal grandmother, Ellen Forkum.

Survivors include his daughter, Sam Gwyn and former wife, Ellen Reese of Sebring, FL; Sister, Yvette (Joseph) Mann of Williamsburg, MO; Niece, Dani (Travis) Weakley of Auxvasse, MO; Partner in crime, Michelle Greathouse of North Platte; Best Friend and "Brother," Phil Viehmann of Wentzville, MO; and four grand-nieces; and other relatives and some great friends he considered family.

In lieu of a memorial, the family has asked for donations towards saving sea turtles, as these were his favorite animal. Donations can be made to the Olive Ridley Project. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Wel-Life Assisted Living in Ogallala.
