Mildred P. Schwasinger

MILDRED "MILLY" SCHWASINGER, 94, a longtime Ogallala resident, passed away September 6, 2022, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Mildred Pauline Peters was born on the farm to Fred L. Peters Jr. and Mary Jane Younker Peters on April 1, 1928. She attended Ogallala Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1945. After graduation, Milly worked at the Kersenbrock drugstore for 23 years. She married her high school sweetheart, Perry Schwasinger Jr. after he came home from the Navy, on August 1, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Ogallala. They made their home in Ogallala where Perry worked for the natural gas company. Two children were born to them, Linda Sue and Rodney Wayne.

Milly was a homemaker, 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, and gardener. When the children were in school, Milly began bowling in the matinee league. Milly bowled for 55 years attending many state tournaments and a national tournament in Denver. While bowling, she was most proud of bowling a game of 279 in a series of 620. Milly was proud of the children and enjoyed their activities. She liked gardening and canning usually entering her products in the Keith County fair. Milly also loved making quilts and crochet afghans and potholders. After Perry passed away, she volunteered at the senior center and enjoyed playing cards with friends. She was also a longtime volunteer with RSVP, the Mansion on the Hill, the American Red Cross, and Keith County Area Bloodmobile.

Milly was a devoted Christian and read her Bible often. She always had a grateful heart and a positive attitude that was uplifting to the people around her.

Milly was a matriarch of a devoted family. In 2017, Milly moved to North Platte to be closer to her daughter.

Milly was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Schwasinger Jr., and her brother, Clyde (Ethel) Peters.

Survivors include her children, Linda (Galen) Einspahr of North Platte and Rod (Sue) Schwasinger of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Amy (Russ) Doucet and Jim (Jessica) Einspahr of North Platte, and Matt Schwasinger of Bozeman MT; great-grandchildren, Nick Doucet of Kearney and Kaitlyn Doucet, Allison Einspahr and Ava Einspahr of North Platte along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established in Milly's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com. Services will be streamed live at methodistchurchogallala.com.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala, with Pastor Curtis Magelky officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
