Opal Mae Scammehorn Drake Hirsch
Opal M. Hirsch, age 92, Former resident of Loveland, Colorado, died Tuesday, May 26th, 2015 at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.
Opal was born November 30, 1922 in Milton, Kansas to James H. and Mae Belle (Sipult) Scammehorn. Opal grew up in Milton and in 1940 she married Lester Drake. The couple made their home in Milton until 1956 when they moved to Wichita, Kansas, and then Longmont, Colorado in 1961. In 1978 she married Jacob Hirsch II in Greeley, Colorado, making their home in Loveland. In November of 2003, she moved to Brule, Nebraska, and later to Grant in June of 2012.
In her early years Opal worked at a variety of stores and school lunch rooms, and later farmed with her husband Jake. She was a member of the Baptist church in Milton.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Lester in 1975 and Jacob in 2002; her daughters Judy Dulany and infant daughter Vickie Lynn; two brothers Lynn Scammehorn and Andrew Scammehorn; 1 grand daughter Jennifer Pelkey; and sister in-law, Erna Hein.
Survivors include her children, James Drake and his wife Nancy of Brule, Nebraska, a daughter Debra Pinkerton and her husband Jeff of Westminster, Colorado; three step children Brenda Schleiger and her husband Rich of Loveland, Colorado, Jacob Hirsch III and his wife Rebecca of Eaton, Colorado, Wanda Hirsch of Fort Collins, Colorado; sister, Helen Marnix of Midwest City Oklahoma, 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established in her memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the service will also be streamed live for those unable to attend.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 1:30 PM at Prairie Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Cemetery at Milton, KS on June 5, 2015 at 9:00 AM. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Prairie Hills Funeral Home.
