ROBERT GENE "BOB" MERCER, 73, of Fort Collins, CO passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home.
Bob was born November 3, 1948, in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Charles and Lorene (Anderson) Mercer. He graduated from Brule High School with the class of 1967. Bob went on to attend CSU, where he graduated in 1971, earning a degree in business.
Bob was married to Susan Gayle Hinrichs, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala. Their union was blessed with three children, Mandy, Missy, and Mike.
Bob's parents opened a fuel station and Husky Oil, based out of Brule. He worked at the station for a few years before taking a position at Kohl Motors as a comptroller. In 1987, the family moved to Colorado, where Bob worked as comptroller at Burt Motors until his retirement in 2006. Bob and Gayle retired to Daytona Beach, FL, before returning to Colorado to be closer to family.
Bob and Gayle loved to travel and often made the trip back to Brule to visit family, friends, and the farm over the years. Bob was an avid Husker and Bronco football fan. He also loved to hunt. Bob's greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren, and his heart was always with them.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle of Fort Collins, CO; children, Mandy (David) Kwiatek of Parker, CO, Missy (Mark) Holmes of Fort Collins, CO, Mike (Sara) Mercer of Burke, VA; grandchildren, Dirk Mercer, Talia Brown, Reese Brown, Lauren LaBouf, Alec LaBouf, Keaton Holmes, Bryn Holmes, and Camden Mercer; brother, Jerry (Bea) Mercer of Peralta, NM; nieces, Crystal (Chuck) Phelps of Albuquerque, NM, Cindy Mercer of Peralta, NM; nephew, Randy Mercer of Peralta, NM; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Bob's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.
Memorial services will be on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at 10:30 am at the St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Brule with Rev. J.M. Dickmander officiating. Inurnment will be in the Brule Cemetery.
A memorial book signing with family-receiving friends will be on Monday from 4 pm until 6 pm at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
