Salvador Fernandez

Salvador Fernandez, 91, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away September 2, 2026, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Salvador was born November 16, 1934, in Taretan, Michoacán, Mexico, to Guadalupe and Maria Jesus (Cervantes) Fernandez.

In May of 1970, Salvador married Maria Olivia Claudia Aragon. The couple made their home in Pueblo, Colorado, and Sidney, Nebraska, for many years, while Salvador worked with the Burlington Northern Railroad as a track laborer and maintainer. He also raised cattle for a number of years.

Salvador was a steady and hard worker all his life. He was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney. Away from the railroad, Salvador loved being outdoors and working with his hands. He kept a garden, took to farming, and was happiest with a fishing pole in his hand.

Salvador was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Fernandez; his parents, Guadalupe and Jesusa Fernandez; two stepsons, Ray and James Encinias; his brothers, Fernando and Guadalupe Fernandez; and his sisters, Olivia and Irma Fernandez.

He is survived by his sister Estolia Fernandez of Guadalajara, Mexico; brother Jerry Fernandez of Sidney, Nebraska; daughters, Lupe Comparan (Chris Batt) of Ogallala, Nebraska, and Stephanie (Lance) Barker of Middleburg, Florida; Gloria (Antonio) Perez of Michoacán, Mario (Maria) Fernandez of Morelia, Michoacán, Salvador (Lourdes) Fernandez of Morelia, Michoacán, Ilda (Mike) of Atwater, CA, Lorena (Antonio) Rodriguez of Atwater, CA, Memo (Delia) Fernandez of Stockton, CA; his stepchildren, Johnny (Ramona) Encinias of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Yolanda Reyes of Albuquerque, New Mexico, David (Emily) Sandoval of El Cerrito, New Mexico, Chris Encinias of Denver, Colorado, Brenda Garvin of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Ricky (Gigi) Garvin of Mooresville, North Carolina, Charles (Shanna) Garvin of Sterling, Colorado, and Max Garvin of Sidney, Nebraska; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Cerrito, New Mexico. Burial will be in the El Cerrito Cemetery in El Cerrito, New Mexico.
