STEPHEN KENT EDWARDS, 75 of Ogallala, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Steve was born October 20, 1946, at Ogallala, Nebraska, to Leslie and Ruby (Kenfield) Edwards. Steve's childhood was a blessed one, as he collected wonderful memories alongside his best friend and neighbor, Vic Faesser. From riding bikes, jumping from the Faesser basement house roof, to cruising around in Steve's Chevy Monza, their friendship would span nearly 70 years. Steve graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1965 and subsequently attended Chadron State to earn his teaching certificate.
Steve spent a year teaching at a country school near Keystone and came to the realization that teaching wasn't his calling. The Edwards side of the family had primarily been in law enforcement, and so, perhaps inspired by his lineage, Steve would become a court bailiff, serving primarily in Lancaster County.
Steve would eventually move home to Ogallala to care for his mother, returning to the same house he was raised in. He and Ruby enjoyed taking walks, admiring the flower gardens, and soaking in the other sites.
Steve enjoyed collecting old law enforcement badges and amassed quite a collection. He shared the hobby with some good friends over the years, discussing their good finds and locating their next ones.
In recent years, Steve lived a very quiet life and much preferred it that way.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, along with many aunts and uncles on both sides.
Survivors include his uncles, Howard and Harvey Kenfield, both of Ogallala, along with many cousins, friends, and caregivers that helped Steve on the final leg of his journey.
Services will be on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala, with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating. Interment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Steve's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.
