SUSAN GAYLE MERCER, passed away January 26, 2023, at Littleton, Colorado.
Gayle was born on April 14, 1952, at Grant, Nebraska to Harold Hinrichs and Margaret (Harms) Doughty. On May 18, 1952, Gayle was baptized into Christ's death and resurrection at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Brule, Ne. On May 30, 1965, she confirmed her baptismal faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ogallala, NE and received the precious gift of Christ's life-giving body and blood. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1969.
Gayle married Robert "Bob" Mercer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala on September 9, 1969 and their union was blessed with three children, Mandy, Missy, and Mike.
Gayle worked in finance at Adams Bank and First National Bank of Ogallala before the family moved to Colorado in 1987. While living in Colorado, Gayle did a variety of jobs and really enjoyed trying new things; she especially loved opening up Bull Whackers Casino in Central City, CO. She did accounting and payroll for them and loved getting to see something new happening for Colorado in such a fun way.
In 2006, Gayle and Bob retired to Daytona Beach, FL, before returning to Fort Collins, CO in 2021, to be closer to family.
Gayle was all about her family and loved spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.
Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Mercer, in September of 2022; her father, Harold Hinrichs; her mother, Margaret Doughty; her Stepfather Bart Doughty; one brother, Gary Hinrichs; and one sister Gayle Ann Hinrichs.
Survivors include her children, Mandy (David) Kwiatek of Parker, CO, Missy (Mark) Holmes of Fort Collins, CO, Mike (Sara) Mercer of Burke, VA; grandchildren, Dirk Mercer, Talia Brown, Reese Brown, Lauren LaBouf, Alec LaBouf, Keaton Holmes, Bryn Holmes, and Camden Mercer; stepmother, LeeAnn Hinrichs of Brule; brothers, Cecil Hinrichs of Ogallala, Albert (Wendy) Hinrichs of Centennial, CO; sister-in-law, Lynda Hinrichs of Gothenburg; nephews, Pete (Emily) Georges, of Omaha; Jarret (Shanna) Hinrichs, of Rowlett, TX; Christopher (Tonya) Hinrichs, of North Platte; Jason (Mary Nass) Hinrichs, of Colorado Springs, CO, along with many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Brule with Rev. J.M. Dickmander officiating. Inurnment will be in the Brule Cemetery.
A memorial book signing with family receiving friends will be on Sunday from 4 pm until 6 pm at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
